Hey families, this is a great weekend to get out and have some fun. Along with the Salute to American Graffiti this weekend there are some fun hobby activities going on as well.

Friday evening:

Slot Car Racing at the American Graffiti Cruise-in at the Petaluma Plaza, 4-7pm.
HobbyTown USA will be setting up a 4’X8′ slot car track at the cruise-in where you can try your skill at racing 1/32 scale cars. These type model car racing sets were very popular in the 60’s and they are making a come back. We will also have a digital slat car layout available to try in the store. Free to all.

International Plastic Modeling Society meeting, at HobbyTown, 7-9pm
This club meets at HobbyTown every month to show off models that they’ve built and talk about all aspects of plastic model building. The meeting includes show-and-tell, how-to demonstrations, and news about model competitions. Free to all.

Saturday:

Radio Control Car Racing, at HobbyTown, 10am-6pm
Bring your radio controlled car or truck for some fun competition with other drivers. We race in the Petaluma Plaza parking lot across from Quizno’s. Track should be set up for practice by 10am, racer registration is from 10am to noon, and racing starts at noon. Lots of room for spectators to watch. There is a fee to race but no charge to watch.

Model Building Day, at HobbyTown, 10am-6pm
Bring your favorite plastic model kit to HobbyTown and enjoy building with model builders of all ages and skill levels. It is a great opportunity to learning more about model building and swap techniques with other builders. The IPMS model building club provides an air compressor, spray booth, and rotary tool for use. Free to all.

Indoor Flying at University of Sports, 6-9pm
At least the sun and warm weather have returned but local flyers know it is often too windy to enjoy radio controlled flying outside. Bring your micro aircraft or helicopter to University of Sports in Rohnert Park to fly at their indoor soccer field. The event is sponsored by Jake’s Performance Hobbies and a small donation is requested to help cover the cost of renting the space.

Get out and have some fun this week end.

Steven
